By opening this region, customers in Indonesia will benefit from low latency and high performance of their cloud-based workloads and data.
Google Cloud Asia Pacific managing director Rick Harshman says, “We see demand (more than triple since last year) from local end-users (for G Suite), enterprises, and startups (including unicorns). Google itself also has a strong presence, so this growth is the reason for us to launch this region in Indonesia.”
Google Cloud region enables the deployment of resources in specific locations or leverages on multi-regional or global deployment models. It is also designed for high availability to help protect against service disruptions.
“At last year’s Jakarta summit we talked about how we are expanding our infrastructure and we announced Indigo Project, a subsea fibre cable improving connectivity between Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia.
“This will be our 8th Cloud region in the Asia Pacific after Mumbai, Singapore, Taiwan, Sydney and Tokyo, with Osaka and Hong Kong still to come.”
However, when asked about targets and timelines for the launch of these regions, Harshman was unable to immediately disclose the information.
In Indonesia, customers of all sizes are transforming their businesses using GCP, including Blue Bird Group, CT Corp, Sale Stock, Go-Jek, Emtek, Tokopedia, and Traveloka.
Google is continuing to build its local partner ecosystem to support customers as they move to the cloud and already has deep partnerships with a multitude of born-in-the-cloud partners in the region.
“Google has had a long-standing commitment to Indonesia and continues to hire locally in order to provide support to the rapidly growing number of customers in Indonesia,” explains Google Cloud head of Southeast Asia Tim Synan.
“Google is investing in programmes to help Indonesian startups scale their businesses globally and providing digital skilling classes to help small businesses get online and find new customers. With these investments we want to help Indonesia become a digital powerhouse in SEA.”
